Louis XIV is a great monument in Lyon, it attracts millions of tourists every years.
Tourists take pictures of the equestrian as a symbol of Lyon.
The monument is a little bit austere and its rigor belongs to XIX century.
The main idea was to link the equestrian statue to XX century, putting Louis XIV in an monumental snowdome, and play with the picturesque site becoming caricatural and magical.
We tried to offer memory to present time, the first fonction of the snowdome memento : and it was interesting to play with past and real time, both on a same site and time.
The project was rich by its many levels of reading, he created a vector of centrality in the middle one of the biggest place in Europe.
I LOVE LYON was a real wink to the symbolic force of the tourism in lyon. Claude Chabrol, famous french filmaker, had immortalized I LOVE LYON, in La fille coupée en deux 2007. In 2007 Lyon asked us to create I LOVE LYON again.
